The bond between a man and his four-wheeled friend is certainly a special one. In today’s world cars have become our second homes. The amount of time the average person spends behind the wheel is, honestly, crazy. I mean, when was the last time you walked somewhere? Cars have become our second homes, and having in mind the amount of time we spend behind the wheel, practicality should be one of our top priorities. There are some things you’re required by the law to always keep in the trunk of your car. But there’s another category: useful things to have in the trunk of your car you probably haven’t thought of.
Air pressure gauge
Tires are the only part of your car that’s in direct contact with the road, and the most important step you can take to make sure that they last a long time is to regularly check tire pressure. Around 1-3 psi per month is within the range of normal air loss, and if you forget to check the pressure for, say, a few months you could be driving on dangerously underinflated tires.
Let’s say you haven’t checked the pressure for 3 months. In those 3 months, pressure loss could be as high as 9 psi, which is around ¼ of the recommended air pressure (generally somewhere around 35 psi, depending on the tire size and car’s manufacturer.)
That’s where this handy little tool comes into play. All you have to do is check the pressure (tire must be cold to get the correct reading) once a month, and act accordingly. You can do it anywhere, anytime. It’s completely free (once you buy the gauge), and most importantly, it will eliminate the risk of driving on underinflated tires.
A warm hoodie
You’re on a date, you’re walking under the stars, you’re social distancing from the rest of the population, and everything is just perfect. Then, suddenly it starts getting a bit chilly. Your date starts shivering, and that right there’s the ideal opportunity to score some crucial points.
You go to your car, open the trunk and give them your hoodie, which mysteriously smells of your most complimented cologne.
Should I really spend any more time convincing you that this is a fantastic idea?
20$
Having some extra cash hidden away in the trunk of your car’s not a bad idea. It’s not a lot of money, and if you ever happen to need it, you’ll be thankful you hid it.
A few bottles of water
Just make sure to always have some bottled water in your car.
Some snacks, Energy bars, nuts, etc
When it comes to water and snacks in your car, just think of it as a “Second Aid Kit”
A multi-tool
Being able to open a can of food, saw through a piece of wood, and cut a wire with just one tool that can fit in your pocket, it’s Practicality 101. It’s like killing 20 birds with one stone
A wool blanket
Having a warm blanket’s not just handy when you want to stop somewhere for a quick, unplanned picnic. Car breakdowns can happen anytime anywhere, and if you happen to find yourself in such unfortunate circumstances, a warm blanket on a cold night can be a lifesaver.
Travel charger
I know what you’re thinking right now. Why would I need a travel charger in my car when I could just use my car charger?
Well, unless when traveling, travel chargers are pretty much something most of us never use. And if you have one laying around somewhere, give it a charge and keep it in your car instead of the bottom of that drawer you open twice a year. If your car’s battery ever betrays you…
An umbrella
It’s like toilet paper, you never really think of it until you need it. Just put it there, better safe than sorry. You’re definitely going to need it sooner or later.
Pocket tissues and travel pack wet wipes
If the last night’s Mexican dinner decides it’s coming out right then and there and the closest toilet is a public one, guess what’s not gonna be one of your problems? An empty toilet paper dispenser.
Every man should be able to handle unexpected situations without difficulty, and having these items in the trunk of your car’s an amazing way to be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances that may befall you.
